Your Final Project will be a research project on a topic of you own choosing. The topic should be based on the readings and discussions of this course. Materials and readings assigned in this course may help you define a research question or topic, but may not be used as sources in the final project. The aim is to produce an intelligent and well-researched interpretation of women’s history. You must use at least three primary sources and three secondary sources. Encyclopedias (either print or online), including Wikipedia, are not acceptable secondary sources. Remember to express your own interpretation of your topic; your paper should not simply summarize the views of other authors but should put forth a creative reinterpretation of the facts supported with evidence from your sources.
Your topic must be cleared by your instructor no later than the end of Unit 3.
This paper must be a minimum of 8 to 10 pages, including the bibliography. Use the APA form of citation for your paper.
The Final Project will be due no later than the last day of Unit 9.
I have been thinking about what my topic might be and the discussion board question was what we might be interested in doing it on..here are my own thoughts on what I might choose:

I think I want my topic to be about cultural adjustments women immigrants have had to make living in America. I am not sure if I will be focusing on a specific culture or on cultures as a whole. It really depends on how much this topic has been researched or studied as a whole. I am looking forward most to learning about how connections between differing cultures resulted in changes in the home and in the mindset of these women. How did the interaction affect social changes? I like the idea of a woman coming from a socially different culture and learning that she has rights and opinions that can be expressed in her new homeland without fear of repression or persecution. I want to know how an italian woman’s culture and diversity might have influenced a woman from india and vice versa. How a woman who was from England might interact with a woman from Spain. The dynamics of these diverse relationships have never been examined as much and I am interested in knowing how these interactions added to social change and personal needs for more equality in marriage and partnerships. I am just a fountain of questions aren’t I? I am not even sure that sources for this information exists but I am going to give it try! |
